Summary:

  1. Eat Elsewhere. Go, if you wish, for beer and atmosphere.

Details:

  1. We had two dinners -- Fish & Chips and the “Christmas Dinner”, which was a collection of the restaurant specialities.

  2. The Fish of the Fish & Chips was OK -- undistinguished but not incompetent. The “chips” were a flaccid parody of fried potatoes -- it appeared that they had been prepared, underdone,  hours previously and then left to soften under a heat-lamp. The “mushy peas” side dish was dry and room-temperature.

  3. The turkey in the “Christmas Dinner” was dry, and the roasted potatoes seemed to have suffered the same fate as the chips. The turkey had a glossy gelatinous brown sauce on top. There was a fair stuffing and a cooked-to-mush mixture of diced carrots and turnip.

  4. All in all, the overall quality level was Bad School Cafeteria.

  5. The White Lion offers some unusual beer selections, and the decor is an earnest attempt at pub decor, with low paneled ceilings, small rooms and lots of pub-themed wall decorations. If you want a dark, noisy atmosphere in which to drink imported beer, this is your place.

  6. Just eat elsewhere, first.
